A Saturday morning drive to Gateway for brunch. This wasn't an "official" drive - just a last minute decision by John and Joyce Feliciano, and Dave and JoAnn Miller.
If you haven't been to Gateway Canyons Resort yet, put it on your list for an easy day trip. It's only an hour from Grand Junction. Just head south to Whitewater and hang a right on Colorado 141. It's about 43 miles from there to Gateway.
The highway has a nice variety of hills, curves and straightaways. Weekends may find some bicycles and slow vehicles. Be patient; there are lots of open areas to pass.
The Paradox Grille has a nice menu, prices are reasonable and the scenery is unique. And, if you haven't toured the Gateway Auto Museum, pony up the admission fee and spend a few hours in it before you head home.
Route: South to Whitewater. Hang a right on Colorado 141 and you'll end up in Gateway.
Distance: About 43 miles from the Whitewater turnoff.
Driving time: About an hour from the south side of Grand Junction. (Google Maps says 1:27 from Whitewater, but we're driving sports cars, not farm machinery ...)
